Corkey Christman’s arrangement of “A la Nanita Nana” is for solo pedal harp. Originally published in 1904 as an art song, a simplified version of “La Nana” by José Gomis and Juan F.M. y Pabón has become a beloved Spanish language Christmas lullaby. A cover by The Cheetah Girls and Belinda in 2006 made it even more well known.
Christman’s creative and evocative arrangement is useful for both gigs and church services. It also is a great student piece with its use of varying sound colors (e.g., playing p.d.l.t. or with fingernails) and a variety of different muffling techniques to bring out the melody.
