Brook Boddie (1968-2020), was a talented harpist, organist, pianist and composer who passed away suddenly at the age of 51. The Brook Boddie Hymnal, Volume I, contains previously unpublished pieces that Brook improvised and posted in the form of YouTube videos, beginning in 2009. Bill Ooms graciously volunteered to transcribe them, and Rhett Barnwell edited and revised them into the current published form. This version contains the pieces in the original keys and is designed for lever harps tuned in the key of E flat, or pedal harps. These arrangements and original compositions are all accessible to the intermediate harpist, with only 2 pedal or lever changes in the entire collection. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this book will be donated to a musical charity specified by Brook’s family.

Somedays it can be difficult to find peace. But I know as I play through this book, peace will follow. I love Brook’s captivating melodies, enchanting harmonies and reverent rhythms. Although the arrangements are not difficult they are very moving and expressive. Thank you Rhett for making this inspiring collection available.

This collection of Brook Boddie's work is a treasure trove of beautiful, meditative solo harp works that are destined to become favorites with any church harpist. Included are familiar hymns with some original compositions. I just played through the entire book and some of the harmonies he uses are so moving. What an undertaking to collect and transcribe these, but also what a gift to all of us who will be able to help Brook's spirit live on as we share this music with others. Thank you!
