Known in hymnals as “O come, O come Emmanuel”, Mr. Barnwell previously arranged this classic hymn tune for the Advent and Christmas season in a fairly straightforward manner. In this new arrangement for 2024, he drew inspiration from the hymn’s medieval roots, as it was originally a Gregorian chant. This setting is comprised of 3 variations, each with a distinct “flavor”. It begins with an ancient, medieval style and progresses to a more contemporary feel, with classical elements incorporated along the way. It is in the key of A minor, and is designed at the intermediate level. It can be played by pedal or lever harpists with only a few accidentals.
