Maple Hill Lament by Matthew Hitt
This composition is named after a historic local cemetery. The use of Dorian mode along with he stylistic inspiration from reels combine to suggest the mournfulness of loss tempered by the joy of memory. As Alfred, Lord Tennyson wrote "'Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all." Composition is in F Dorian (three flats). Range is from C5 to F2; suitable for 26 string lever harps up to pedal harps. No lever or pedal changes are necessary.
