’Twas in the Moon of Wintertime - A warm and sensitive setting by Philip Hayden of this beautiful 16th-century French Christmas carol. The melody, originally a French folk tune, became the basis for the carol we know today when it was paired in the 17th century with a text adapted to reflect the Christmas story through Indigenous Canadian imagery and references.
Hayden’s arrangement captures the gentle, contemplative character of the melody while allowing it to speak naturally on the harp. In A minor, this intermediate-level setting is suitable for either lever or pedal harp and requires no lever or pedal changes.
