This delightfully tender setting of the beloved Christmas carol “Gentle Mary Laid Her Child” by Philip Hayden is based on the ancient melody found in Piae Cantiones (1582), now commonly associated with “Good King Wenceslas.”
Written in G major for pedal or lever harp, this arrangement uses no accidentals and can be played comfortably on a small lever harp as well. The gentle, lyrical setting is suitable for the easy-intermediate harpist and is an especially lovely choice for Christmas services, recitals, or quiet holiday playing. Two versions are included: one without fingerings and one with complete fingerings, allowing harpists to choose the version that best suits their playing style and needs.
