Marcel Tournier
Edited by Carl Swanson and Catherine Michel
For Solo Harp

Intermediate Pieces for Solo Harp, Volume I (1–8) presents eight previously unpublished pieces by Marcel Tournier, offering harpists the opportunity to explore lesser-known works by one of the most important harpist-composers of the 20th century.

These works were discovered by Carl Swanson in manuscript form and carefully prepared for publication with the assistance of renowned harpist Catherine Michel. Swanson and Michel worked to bring the manuscripts into a clear, playable form, adding fingerings, musical nuances, tempos, pedal markings, and pedal diagrams, as well as clarifying passages through revised notation where needed.

Tournier composed these pieces in his twenties, before developing the impressionistic style that would later become a hallmark of his music. Instead, these works reflect the late-Romantic style taught at the Paris Conservatory during his early career.

The eight pieces are short and intermediate in level, making them accessible to advancing harpists while providing fresh repertoire by a first-rate composer. This collection is a valuable addition for harpists looking to expand their solo repertoire and discover previously unpublished music from Tournier’s early years.
