Intermediate Pieces for Solo Harp, Volume 3
Marcel Tournier
Edited by Carl Swanson and Catherine Michel
For Solo Harp
Intermediate Pieces for Solo Harp, Volume 3 presents 10 previously unpublished works by Marcel Tournier, offering harpists another collection of rarely heard music from this important harpist-composer.
The pieces were discovered by Carl Swanson in manuscript form and carefully prepared for publication with the assistance of renowned harpist Catherine Michel. The original manuscripts required detailed editorial work, including clarifying passages through revised notation and adding fingerings, musical nuances, tempos, pedal markings, and pedal diagrams to help performers bring the music to life.
Tournier composed these works while he was in his twenties, before developing the impressionistic style that would become a defining characteristic of his later compositions. Instead, these pieces reflect the late-Romantic style taught at the Paris Conservatory during his early years.
The selections are short and intermediate in level, making them approachable for advancing harpists while providing the opportunity to explore music by a major composer that has only recently become available.
