Sonate pour Flûte, Alto, et Harpe
Claude Debussy
Edited by Carl Swanson
Original Manuscript Edition
For Flute, Viola, and Harp
Claude Debussy’s Sonate pour Flûte, Alto, et Harpe is one of the most important works in the chamber music repertoire. For this meticulously researched edition, Carl Swanson went back to Debussy’s original handwritten and signed 1915 manuscript to compare it with the edition originally published by Durand et Cie.
Using photographs of the original manuscript provided by the National Library of France, Swanson identified and corrected more than 100 discrepancies between Debussy’s manuscript and the 1916 Durand edition. These corrections include musical markings that had been omitted, misplaced, or reversed, helping restore details of Debussy’s original intentions.
This edition offers performers the opportunity to work from a score that has been carefully examined against Debussy’s own manuscript, providing valuable insight into the composer’s notation and musical intent.
An important edition for harpists performing or studying this landmark work for flute, viola, and harp.
